Sports-related injuries aren’t limited to elite athletes. Everyone who plays sport or takes part in a physical activity, whether it’s under 8s soccer, trail bike riding, dancing or seniors’ tennis can suffer an injury. It may be excessive or inappropriate training, or simply the risks that are part and parcel of contact sport, the resulting pain can result in people having to give away the past-times they enjoy. I can assess, diagnose and manage sports-related injuries through joint manipulation and mobilisation, soft tissue therapies, rehabilitation exercises, strapping / taping and lifestyle advice.
Headaches and Migraines
Chiropractic care focuses on the relationship between the spine and the nervous system. In many cases irritation on the nervous system can be a cause of headaches and migraines. Chiropractic care can help to alleviate the pain by correcting these nervous system impairments.
There are an enormous number of auto-immune disorders, ranging from rheumatoid arthritis to ankylosing spondylitis. However, one thing many of these disorders share is the pain that they cause to the patient including stiff joints, tiredness and sore muscles. Chiropractic care as well as lifestyle interventions can help to alleviate these symptoms. The result is a vastly improved lifestyle for you or your loved one.
Many neurodevelopmental disorders, such as dyslexia, ADHD, autism, and learning delays are a result of a lack of neurosensory integration. This is the ability to take in, process, organise, and integrate sensory information so we feel comfortable and secure. The body and brain work together to process sensory stimulation to the joints and muscles. Adjusting the spine can stimulate the nervous system to improve sensory stimulation.
Scoliosis is a curvature of the spine that can result in back pain, uneven hips and shoulders, prominent ribs and a shift of the waist and torso to the side. Having completed a course in Applied Spinal Bio-mechanical Evaluation, I can devise an exercise program directed at reducing the structural distortions. This allows better alignment and thus reduces any associated back pain.
Given how much time we spend on our devices, it’s not surprising that “text neck” is becoming more common. Technically it’s called Forward Neck Posture, and it’s the result of bending our heads forward (usually over our electronic devices these days) for extended periods of time. The weight of our skull whilst in these positions puts enormous pressure on your neck and spine, resulting in headaches, neck and shoulder and back pain, pinched nerves and even disk damage. Improving your posture is one step towards alleviating these symptoms. I assess your posture in the clinic by using an awesome digital App called “posture screen” it can calculate the load of your head on your neck depending on your posture. But if this doesn’t help, then chiropractic care in the form of stretches, exercises and manipulation can help.
Aches and pains in the lower back and hips are part of the territory during pregnancy. The weight of carrying a baby can throw your centre of gravity off balance and put extra strain on your spine and back muscles. Women often automatically adjust their posture to prevent the baby’s weight from pulling them forward, resulting in their spine and hips becoming misaligned. Chiropractic care can help to gently realign the pelvis and spine as well as offer relief from back, muscle and joint pain. This care also prepares the pelvis for an easier birth. Studies have shown that women receiving chiropractic care throughout their pregnancy have an approximate reduction in labor time of 30%, as well as needing 50% less pain medication. Another study has been shown to reduce the likelihood of postpartum depression.
Neck, Shoulder, Arm, Back, Knee, Foot & Ankle Pain
